Much More Than Simply Delicious Food

Let me set a scene: you're really hungry and really broke, so you walk to the new restaurant (not far from your job), where you've been a regular since the doors opened, and you tell the chef your situation; would you walk away still hungry?

If you're able to walk into your neighborhood restaurant with the same problem, and walk out with a full belly-you live in an exceptionally nice neighborhood, and where I'm going with this story probably means nothing to you.

But for those of us, who live in average, far from exceptional city neighborhoods know that the likelihood of that happening is pretty much nonexistent. I mean for most of us we can't even cash in a bottle top for a free soda in the stores where we shop daily. As the customer you feel unappreciated, and that the business owner's only focus is making a buck.

Burned Nigerian girl keeps faith in miracles

The last thing Chinonye Omeje remembers of that day was checking on a pot of stew from its precarious perch over a cooking fire. She lifted the top of the pot and, at that moment, suffered an epileptic seizure.

The girl, then 14, fell face first into the fire, and the tumbling pot dumped its scalding contents onto her head. Chi Chi, as she is called, was burned beyond recognition. Her pretty, smiling face vanished. Her eyes, nose, lips, and right ear melted away. Her hair went up in flames, and her scalp was scalded. Much of her right hand was disfigured, along with her neck and chest.

Her family thought she was dead. But on the way to the hospital, she began to move. Thus began an incredible journey back from the brink of death, from a small village in Africa to a large village of Americans who have helped pave the rocky road.

Culinary Leaders Band Together to Raise Funds for Aspiring Chef

Starting a career is a daunting challenge for many. For some it's about finding inspiration which leads to passion. For others it's about overcoming the cost of education or getting an opportunity to show an employer they have what it takes. For aspiring chef Brandon Rodgers, his journey, at one time or another, has been about all three.
